For many of us, we live in a constant state of overstimulation as a result of the perpetual influx of information that is simultaneously plastered all around us and available at our fingertips.
Michael Barreto believes it is a desensitization tactic to keep society complacent and he is interested in disrupting that complacency.
Through the fusion of language/text (specifically, modern American vernacular) and found materials, Barreto wants his artwork to explore how the collective human experience is affected by factors such as popular culture, violence, advertisement, social media obsession, religion, and rampant consumerism.
